Blindness

What is blindness?

Blindness is a loss of visual abilities, partial or complete. Early identification of blindness and its rapid treatment make it possible to avoid possible complications.

Definition of blindness
Blindness is a visual disorder characterized by impaired vision. This disadvantage is more or less significant. This may be due to a complete loss of visual abilities.

Currently, almost 285 million people worldwide have visual impairments. Of these, 39 million are blind, and 246 million suffer from visual impairment.

Anyone, regardless of age, may be suffering from blindness. However, people from low-income countries are more affected by this phenomenon.

Older people are more likely to develop this pathology. Indeed, almost 65% of people who suffer from more or less significant blindness are over the age of 50. Blindness, detected and diagnosed before the age of 15, requires prompt and early treatment to limit any deterioration.

Visual impairment is identified, prevented, and cured. According to the International Classification of Diseases, 4 categories can determine visual function:

Normal vision and without any impairments
Visual impairment, moderate
A more serious visual impairment
Blindness or complete loss of vision.
Then blindness resumes all visual impairments, from the least significant to the most serious.

Causes of blindness
Several causes may be associated with the development of blindness. Among them:

visual disturbances such as myopia, hypertropemia, astigmatism, etc.
anomalies in the cataract area that have not undergone surgery.
the development of glaucoma (pathology of the eyeball).

Evolution and possible complications of blindness

The level of visual impairment may be more or less significant, depending on the patients. Prompt and early treatment helps limit complications and deterioration.

Gradual loss of vision, up to complete loss, is possible and increases over time.

Symptoms of blindness

In conditions of complete blindness, we will talk about a complete loss of visual abilities.

Partial blindness can lead to the development of the following clinical signs and symptoms :

blurred vision
difficulties in identifying shapes
decreased visual abilities in a dark environment
vision worsens at night
increased sensitivity to light

Risk factors for blindness

Among the risk factors for blindness, we can mention:

the presence of underlying eye pathology, especially glaucoma
diabetes and STROKE
eye surgery
exposure to toxic eye products
Premature birth also poses an increased risk of blindness for the baby.

How to treat
The treatment of blindness includes the appointment of glasses and/or contact lenses. Surgery can also be a solution for the most important cases.

Medication may also be used.

Complete loss of vision requires other means: reading Braille, having a blind dog, respectively, a different way of life, etc. Débuter dans l'univers des paris sportifs devient bien plus intéressant lorsqu'un avantage financier conséquent vous est offert.
